Still, automakers want to get started as soon as possible, so they can find the vulnerabilities in their supply chains, said Sig Huber, a consultant at Conway MacKenzie and a former head of purchasing at Fiat Chrysler.
“There’s just no way to know until you start it as to where the failures in the chain are going to appear,” he said. “The supply-chain issue is going to take a while to sort itself out.”
